Baining Fire Dance
Performed by the Baining people, this spectacular fire dance takes place at night, where masked dancers jump through flames in a sacred ritual.
Traditionally, it is a male initiation ceremony but is also performed during special occasions.
The masks are elaborately handcrafted and represent ancestral spirits.
02
Tolai Tubuan & Dukduk Ceremony
A secretive and sacred ritual of the Tolai people, involving masked figures called Tubuan and Dukduk.
These spiritual beings enforce laws, pass judgment, and guide social order.
The dance is accompanied by Kundu drums, and only initiated men know the true meaning behind the masks.

Shell Money (Tambu) Trading
Tambu (shell money) is still used as a traditional currency among the Tolai people.
It is exchanged during weddings, funerals, and customary obligations.
